Officine Panerai’s expansion into the realm of high complications, the P.4100 perpetual calendar calibre, released in 2021, boasts numerous highlights, including adjustable time and dual time zones. This calibre breaks away from the traditional perpetual calendar’s complex design by relocating some functions to the case back, resulting in a simpler and easier-to-read dial. Beginning with the PAM00715 watch, the brand has incorporated this calibre into numerous watches across the Luminor and Radiomir collections in just a few years. Panerai’s perpetual calendars are no longer limited to Platinumtech™ cases. The introduction of Goldtech™ red gold further enriches the material options for perpetual calendar watches, as exemplified by the PAM00742.
This watch, part of the Luminor 1950 collection, features a cushion-shaped case popular in the 1950s and Panerai’s instantly recognizable crown-protecting device, evoking a robust style. At first glance, the 44mm case is crafted from Goldtech™ red gold. Compared to conventional 18K gold, Goldtech™ red gold incorporates additional copper and platinum, enhancing its luster and creating a richer, more vibrant color. Furthermore, thanks to the increased platinum content, Goldtech™ red gold offers enhanced resistance to oxidation and corrosion.
The "sandwich dial" design is a hallmark of Panerai fake luxury watches. This sandwich structure consists of an upper disk with engraved hour markers, a middle layer of luminescent material, and a lower base. The advantage of this design is that it can accommodate more luminescent material, enhancing the luminous effect. This watch features a blue sunray-patterned dial, and the hands and hour markers emit a green glow in dimly lit environments, ensuring clear readability.
The name "Luminor" derives from an early luminescent material. Today, Panerai watches utilize safe, non-radioactive Super-LumiNova®, which offers even greater luminous effects. However, due to the brand’s rich heritage, the Luminor name has been retained.
The uniqueness of the Panerai perpetual calendar lies first and foremost in its simplicity. Unlike most perpetual calendar models, this watch features only a 24-hour small seconds subdial at 9 o’clock, indicating day and night, and a 3 o’clock hour marker. The day-of-the-week window echoes the day-of-the-week calendar. From the front alone, it might seem difficult to tell this is a perpetual calendar high quality fake watches.
Placing the month, year, leap year, and power reserve indicators on the back of the movement is a hallmark of the P.4100 caliber. As you can see, the month indicator is a black wheel. An arrow on the bridge indicates the current month. Given the limited space, the brand opted to use initials to designate the months. Inside the month indicator is a flat leap year indicator, with an "L" denoting leap years. The year window and power reserve wheel are located to the left of the pearl rotor.
In addition, the P.4100 caliber boasts a 72-hour power reserve and easy adjustment. Let’s first discuss the power reserve: as a perpetual calendar movement, a longer power reserve reduces the risk of stalling due to insufficient power, thus avoiding tedious adjustments. Most popular perpetual calendar movements on the market have a power reserve of 42 to 55 hours. The Panerai P.4100 caliber, on the other hand, boasts a 72-hour ( 3-day power reserve undoubtedly offers significant advantages.
Given the complexity of perpetual calendar functions, most current perpetual calendar watches lack a "reset" mechanism. This means that if the calendar is accidentally adjusted to the wrong month, it often takes a month or even several months for the correct date to be "adjusted." Rather than waiting, the more appropriate approach is to have the watch handled by the brand’s after-sales service, where a professional watchmaker uses tools to adjust the date, which also causes inconvenience to the wearer. Ease of adjustment is the second major advantage of the P.4100 movement, specifically manifested in two aspects: "one-click" and "resettable." The so-called "one-click" feature centralizes all adjustments—including those for the hands, date, month, year, and dual time—through the crown. Unlike traditional perpetual calendar movements, the Panerai P.4100 caliber does not employ hidden adjustment buttons on the side or back of the case that require a tool to press. Instead, it utilizes a completely new design concept. A stark contrast.
To operate the watch: Pull the crown out one click and turn it clockwise. The hour hand will advance the perpetual calendar. Turn the crown counterclockwise until the hour hand passes 12 o’clock, and the perpetual calendar will "roll back," returning the dials to the previous day’s information.
Leveraging the exceptional features of the P.4100 movement, Panerai has given perpetual calendar watches greater practicality. In addition to the PAM00742 watch we photographed, the brand offers a wide variety of perpetual calendars in various designs and materials: the PAM00715, featuring a Platinumtech™ case with a dark green dial, and the PAM01575, with a blue translucent sapphire dial, both part of the Luminor collection; and the red gold PAM01453, part of the Radiomir collection. These watches have made the perpetual calendar function no longer exclusive to Panerai. It is not just a tool for showing off one’s skills, but in the field of complex watches, it truly combines design aesthetics with practical functions, achieving a balance between displaying advanced watchmaking technology and daily use experience. https://www.grand-watch.co
